Artist Statement
Natural landscapes provide inspiration for much of my work, as does regional folklore. While oftentimes I focus heavily on the human figure, it commonly finds itself juxtaposed with flora and fauna and interlaced with theological references. I explore the shapes of those I find around me, attempting to make sense of and abstract them in turn. In my drawings especially, my goal is to at once show the viewer a glimpse of my creative process while also capturing the sometimes evasive and specific qualities that make my models recognizable as individuals. In my prints I more often let my imagination take hold, working and reworking plates until they tell a story of struggle worth sharing.
